Some of the best things that I have seen around the internet are the software utilities. If you are building websites and using them to deliver a product that you have created, or to send some  of your files to your outsourced helpers, then you need a good zip utility.

I am not so much super tech guy. I am sure there are a lot of people who lots of different opinions on what software they use to do which task in their internet business. I have opinions on that as well, and mine are based on whether they will do the job I want them to do.

And to do that job wihout me needing to have a technical degree from somewhere just to use the program.

I use 2 zip utilities and IZ Arc is one of them. You can find it here:

.

A zip utility is a software that makes files smaller. There are a lot of technical ways of doing this, but much of the time, the software takes out extraneous bits and bytes and shrinks the file down from its original size. This is a cool thing if you need to set up a file to make it downloadable from a website.

That is a pretty simple idea and a very valuable one because it shortens the download time and the shorter the download time, the less time there is for the internet to hiccup and interrupt the download process.

Just like most things online, there are a lot of ideas about the best way to do this. For myself, I think about utility – does the program do what it says it is going to do  – and ease of use – can I figure out how to make the program work simply.

The IZ Arc utility passes my tests on both counts. And its free. I don’t mind buying software that will do something to help make my online business easier, but I really appreciate it when really good stuff is free of charge.

IZ Arc makes it easy to create zip files, makes it easy to open those files up and what is really cool, will convert the file format. If you get a zipped file in, for instance, 7-zip format, and you want to convert it to zip format, you just right click on the file and then click the convert button in IZ Arc. Easy, quick and does not make a lot of mistakes.

I used to use JustZipIt almost exclusively because it was free and quick. However, I think they have stopped updating it and I do not think it works in Windows 7. I use XP and it works great for me. I could be mistaken about it not working on Windows 7, but IZ Arc says it does work in 7 and JustZipIt leaves that platform off the list of supported platforms.

Back in the day, I used to use WinZip, but I found it way too complex for my liking and while I definitely buy things that help me in my online business, I don’t like their interface enough to buy a license.
