Email Marketing Best Practices Can Be Controversial

Email Marketing Best Practices

Email Marketing Best Practices

So I’m going through my email this morning and I come across a message from Mike Cowles. Good guy. Makes great products and I have learned a lot just be paying attention to things that he writes.

He might have some different ideas than me on some things, but then again he might not because we have never really talked.  I just know that from personal online experience, he is a standup guy. At first, you might think that is a novelty in the internet marketing arena, but I have found out that most people who are in that market are genuinely decent people.

There might be some people who I do things different than me, but that is just about being different, it is not about if they are good people or not.

Anyway, I think Mike Cowles is a pretty stand up kind of guy.  :-)

The email that I read is about his new service called Simple One Click

Its a new marketplace for digital products. Kind of like E-Junkie, or RAP Bank, or maybe DigiResults. A place online for people who are selling digital products to actually sell them through affiliates. I think having alternatives to ClickBank is a great idea.

And when the marketplaces are easy to use, that is even better.

Mike’s email was about launching his new marketplace. And to test it all out, make sure the process works, he decided to offer his Affiliate Sales Blueprint product as a super special deal. I’ll say, just under 10 bucks for a product that sells for $97.00 is a bargain in anybody’s book.

So I decided to send out an email to the people who are on my list. Now this is where the strange part comes in. I have not been a regular emailer sort of person. I have people on my lists from various places. Some signed up a long time ago, years actually, and some are from giveaway listbuilding products. The kind of thing where I give a report away in exchange for an email address.

But for some reason, I have been very hesitant about sending out emails that promote products. I find something really good, like in this case, the super deal that Mike Cowles is offering and then start second-guessing myself. “Oh, what, if they all unsubscribe and hate me” or “What if all the people decide that getting emails from me is stupid” or any of a hundred different things that go through my head.

no email for you

Sad When No Emails Get Sent

And I wind up not sending the email.

So as a result, people miss out on the chance to get something good at a really good price and I miss out on making a commission. All because I did not send out an email. And the truth is, that people will unsubscribe from your list if you send them an email and they will unsubscribe if you don’t send them an email and they will unsubscribe because its Tuesday or because they had a fight with their spouse or because they decided that today was the day to get rid of all their email subscriptions.

And they do all those things whether I send them an email or not. Because everyone has their own stuff going on in their life. And if someone is going to get upset with me because I found them a great deal they might want to look at, then that is what they are going to do.

So I kind of think that email marketing best practices ought to include actually sending the email

Sending Emails Is Good

out to the folks on the reading end. No reason for me to second guess myself all the time. Truth is, in my non-IM markets, I send emails every day of the week (except Sunday) and I get click through rates of 30 – 40 percent every time. With an unsubscribe rate just above zero. Maybe one person every 2 weeks or so.

That’s pretty good. So I know I am not a bad guy, I know that I write pretty well. I have a couple of products, kind of on the beginning product development side. They might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but then nothing is really everyone’s cup of tea either.

I know I will get better at making products. And I also know I will make a lot more money selling things, if I offer them to people. Especially when they are really good deals, like this one is:
